BAF Proficiency Awards

Proficiency Awards Administrator: Steven Morley

The BAF runs a successful proficiency award scheme for all three weapons. The awards are aimed at beginners upwards and for all ages. The bronze award can usually be achieved in 4 to 10 weeks or even sooner coach feels the pupil has reached the relevant standard. The gold award can typically be achieved within a year of starting the award scheme, although this may vary from pupil to pupil. The scheme gives the pupil something to aim for whilst learning to fence. The achievement of an award can give a fantastic confidence boost to those who are not very successful at other sports at school. May school choose to present the awards in assembly.

The award consists of a certificate and a metal lapel badge coloured to match the level of the award. There is supporting documentation for the awards in the form of an A5 Study guide and A4 syllabus. This study guide is particularly useful as it contains information relating to fencing theory, rules and regulations. There are three study guides, one for each weapon (Foil, Sabre and Epée) containing all the information necessary for the Bronze, Silver and Gold Awards. The guides have proved very popular as they allow students to learn the rules etc at home and then get tested on them at their club.

Certificates are individually printed, personalised with the coach’s name and that of the pupil. These certificates can be ordered in a group or individualy.
